Jose Mourinho has joined Tottenham Hotspur to replace Mauricio Pochettino as manager. The Portuguese has signed a contract until the end of the 2022/23 season.
Speaking in his first press conference, Mourinho has vowed to fight until the end to defy the odds and lead Tottenham to the Premier League title next season.
“We can’t win the Premier this season. We can, and I don’t say we are going to do it, but we can win it next time,” Mourinho said.
“I don’t need players. I’m very happy with the ones I have. I just need time to understand them better and know everything about them. I always say that you only know one player when you work with him.
“This template is very, very good. I have told you that one of the reasons I have decided to come is them. I tried to buy some of them from different clubs, but I could not,” Mourinho added.
The former Manchester United and Chelsea boss will be in charge for the Premier League clash with West Ham at the London Stadium on Saturday.
“I will face some of my previous teams, at least Chelsea and Manchester United, but I hope that Inter or Real Madrid will also,” Mourinho said.
“I will only have one thing on my mind, my club, which is now Tottenham. I won the Champions League with Porto and three months later I was playing against Porto. That’s life!” Mourinho added.
When asked about Pochettino, Mourinho heaped praise on the Argentine following his great job last season at Premier League and Champions League.
“I will not make the same mistakes, I will make new mistakes. I will be stronger. I have to congratulate him for the incredible work he has done.” Mourinho said.
“This club will always be his home, this training camp is his training camp. He will always be welcome here. He will soon find happiness and will do everything he did in this club. It was with the feeling that he did a great job, it’s what everyone in the club feels,” the Portuguese added.
