Tottenham Hotspurs are in sixth place in the Premier League and went into their final game of the season away to Crystal Palace. And clubs who finish in the Premier League’s top seven could secure a place in Europa League next season.
Spurs head coach Jose Mourinho has insisted that Spurs still want to secure their place in Europa League despite the level drops.
“I prefer Europa. I prefer to play Europa League than not to do it. It’s an advantage not to play. It is because you have one match per week.” Mourinho said.
“You prepare every match, you have less injuries, you have less fatigue, you don’t travel the same. It has lots of advantages, but I prefer the team to compete in the Europa League. Even though it is not the top European competition, it is a European competition and I prefer to do it.
“Of course the level drops, especially in the group phase, before the teams that come from the Champions League. It’s also a competition where you can perfectly give a chance and work the evolution of the younger players, so of course I would prefer to play the Europa League.” Mourinho added.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has insisted that the club will not sell Kane in summer transfer window amid Real Madrid and Manchester United interest.
“I think everyone thinks Harry [Kane] is a fantastic player and Tottenham is so lucky to have him because he’s the player and the person and the Tottenham boy.” Mourinho said.
“All this together makes him a really special player for us that probably wouldn’t be so special playing for another team. Of course we want him to be happy and for him to be happy, he wants victories, score goals.
“And I’m so happy after an incredibly difficult injury he’s coming in the direction where he’s going to end the season perfectly.” Mourinho added.
