Manchester United target Jerome Boateng would prefer a move to Paris St-Germain, according to pundit Brian McBride. The Bayern Munich defender is said to be one of five players on Jose Mourinho’s shortlist for a new centre-back this summer. McBride told ESPN FC: “I was surprised by the willingness of Bayern [Munich] to let him go. “There’s talk about PSG already being in conversation with him. “Man United, certainly they’re looking for a central defender, you could see them having an interest. “I just think for Boateng, the possibility of playing in Paris, the setup they have there, I would see him probably going to PSG before Manchester United. United transfers could be incoming, according to Mourinho.
Speaking after United’s 4-1 friendly defeated to Liverpool last night, Mourinho confirmed that reinforcements might be on the way. “I would like to have two more players,” he said. “I think I am not going to have two. I think it’s possible I am going to have one. It’s possible. “I gave a list to the club of five names a few months ago and I wait to see if it is possible to have one of these players. “If it is possible it is possible, if it is not possible it is not possible. “If it is possible, good, if it is not possible we keep fighting, working and believing in the players that we have.” United midfielder Nemanja Matic will miss the start of the Premier League season, says manager Mourinho.
The Serbia international has played no part in the Red Devils’ pre-season tour of the United States since returning from the World Cup, “Matic arrived from the World Cup, holiday, direct to surgery because something happened in the World Cup,” Mourinho told the club’s official website. “He has had surgery. He is out for the start of the season. “He came from the World Cup with the injury and the time he had to rest on holiday was not enough to resolve the problem. “I don’t know how long he will be out for.”
