Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp made a surprising decision. Klopp announced he would leave Liverpool at the end of the 2023/2024 season.
The German manager’s contract will actually end in the summer of 2026. However, Klopp apparently chose to leave early.
“Juergen Klopp has expressed his decision to step down as Liverpool manager at the end of this season, after conveying his desire to the club owner to leave his position when the 2023/2024 season comes to an end,” read a statement on the club’s website.
This announcement comes less than two days after Klopp guided the Reds to the Carabao Cup final. Following a 1-1 draw (3-2 aggregate) against Fulham in the semi-final second leg.
Thus, Klopp will end his career with Liverpool after more than eight seasons. Klopp has presented a total of seven trophies, including Liverpool’s first Premier League title in 30 years, as well as one Champions League in 2019.
Now Juergen Klopp still has the opportunity to burnish his legacy at Anfield. Liverpool still has the opportunity to win the Premier League, advance to the fourth round of the FA Cup, qualify for the League Cup final and reach the last 16 of the Europa League.
Juergen Klopp admitted he was tired so he decided to resign from Liverpool at the end of the season. There is even a chance that Klopp will not coach again.
After leaving Liverpool, Klopp admitted that he would take a complete rest for at least a year. Because Klopp has practically had no time for that during the last 16 years, which started when he coached Borussia Dortmund in 2008.
When he left Dortmund, Klopp only rested for five months before being signed by Liverpool in October 2015. This is what drained Klopp’s energy and thoughts.
In fact, Klopp might not train again after Liverpool, aka retirement.
“If you ask me now, do I want to coach again, the answer is no. But you certainly don’t know what the future will be like because I have never experienced this. But one thing is certain that I will not coach any club in England other than Liverpool. Impossible ,” Klopp said on ESPN.
“I will look for other new activities. But I will take a break from coaching a club or national team for at least a year.”
