The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) dismissed the post of Spain coach, Julen Lopetegui, on Wednesday (13/06/2018).
This decision is quite surprising because the Spanish National team will face Portugal in the opening match of Group B 2018 World Cup, Friday (15/06/2018).
The president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales, insisted that he had little choice to terminate Lopetegui’s contract as a matter of principle after the coach negotiated with Real Madrid behind their back. RFEF officials feel stepped over because Lopetegui did not tell at all the interest of Madrid to him.
“We decided to sack the national team coach. What we achieve until the 2018 World Cup is the result of everyone’s hard work, we also have to thank him,” RFEF president Luis Rubiales told news conference in Krasnodar.
Rubiales disappointed because Lopetegui told RFEF 5 minutes before he officially appointed Real Madrid as Real Madrid coach, on Tuesday (12/06/2018).
“The negotiations were not informed to us before we only knew five minutes before he officially became Real Madrid coach,” Rubiales continued.
“There’s a way you have to do, Julen has worked really well with the team, but we can not accept how he has acted in this case,” Rubiales said.
As a substitute for Lopetegui, Albert Celades will temporarily handle Sergio Ramos and his friends. He is the coach of the Spanish Under-21 team and is also involved in senior team coaching staff.
Together with Lopetegui, the Spanish National team actually look amazing. In 20 games, Isco Alarcon and his friends never felt defeat with a collection of 14 wins and 6 draws.
Real Madrid surprisingly made the announcement of Lopetegui as Zinedine Zidane’s successor on Tuesday (12/6). The former FC Porto coach will handle Los Blancos for up to three seasons ahead after 2018 World Cup.
