Julian Nagelsmann has reportedly withdrawn from running for Chelsea’s new coach. The reason for the former Bayern Munich coach’s resignation as the candidate for the new Blues tactician – nicknamed Chelsea – will be discussed in this article.
Previously, Chelsea had appointed Frank Lampard as interim coach until the end of the 2022-2023 season. The decision was made following the dismissal of Graham Potter who failed to bring any improvement to the Blues’ performance.
A number of top coaches have been linked with becoming Chelsea coach for next season. Among them Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique and Vincent Kompany who have done a great job with Burnley this season.
Chelsea are no exception and are targeting Julian Nagelsmann, who was ruthlessly sacked by Bayern Munich in March 2023. In fact, the 35-year-old coach is said to have met directly with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly.
But according to Sport1 quoted by Sportbible, Julian Nagelsmann has withdrawn from the bid to become the next Chelsea coach. The reason, he wants a solid project in the Chelsea squad.
In addition, the turmoil at Chelsea has left Julian Nagelsmann feeling ill-suited to lead at Stamford Bridge. He also rejected claims that he had called off further rounds of talks with Chelsea officials.
“To cancel something, you have to commit to something first,” said Julian Nagelsmann, quoting from Sportbible, Sunday (23/4/2023).
For your information, Todd Boehly has spent a lot of money since taking over the club to buy new players which is quite expensive. Among them, namely Enzo Fernandez to Mykhailo Mudryk.
Despite the inclusion of a number of star players, Chelsea have endured a disappointing campaign this season. They are languishing in 11th place in the 2022-2023 Premier League standings and have failed to win any trophies this season.
Therefore, Todd Boehly expects stability for the start of next season and will appoint a new coach ahead of the 2023-2024 season. Now, the former Tottenham Hotspur coach, Mauricio Pochettino is considered a prime candidate after Julian Nagelsmann resigned.
