The Premier League title race reaches its most important moment this weekend when Manchester City play host to a Liverpool side that sits one place and 1 point below them.
Speaking at his press conference, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has considered his Premier League rivals Pep Guardiola as the best manager in the world.
“Pep is the best manager in the world and we all would agree on that. If anybody doubts him, I have no idea how that could happen.” Klopp said.
The German manager added that the Liverpool battle against City was like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal creating a ‘Super classic’ match on the tennis court.
“Maybe. If you play professional football at the highest level the focus is always on your games. In sport, I think what helps the most is a strong opponent. In the long term, especially.” Klopp said.
“I think [Rafael] Nadal and [Roger] Federer enjoyed the rivalry they had. That’s how it is in sport. I wouldn’t say I’m thankful City is that good, but it didn’t harm our development.” Klopp added.
With just eight games of the season remaining for both clubs, a win on Saturday could make all the difference to who finishes as runners-up and who gets their hands on the Premier League trophy.
“I can’t decide what people think, but we can look at the possible outcomes. If we win we will be top of the table with two points ahead of them. But If we lose, we’ll be 4 points behind them.” Klopp said.
“If we draw we’ll still be behind them, that’s it. Does anyone think that after this game the championship race is over and given up?” he added.
