Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp refused to give much away about his possible team selection for League Cup match on Wednesday night. But he insisted the match represents an opportunity for whichever players are involved against Chelsea.
The German manager also said the adaptation process being undertaken by Fabinho, and reiterated his commitment to taking the competitions seriously.
Fabinho arrived at Liverpool in the summer of 2018 for five-year-deal. The Brazilian midfielder joined from AS Monaco in a €50 million deal having helped guided the French side to the Ligue 1 title in 2017.
The 25 year-old midfielder thought quickly take his ease in Liverpool. Played a few seconds in the victory against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, he still fails to convince the Reds manager Klopp.
Klopp has finally managed to shape the team in his image after his first two year seasons. And unfortunately for Fabinho, he is not yet ready to regularly integrate his performance at Liverpool.
“We have a team with a specific style of play. He needs time. He has known many other clubs. So he has a way of running specific to these former teams,” Klopp told the press.
“Here, the game is so fast and intense, it must become natural. We don’t want to change our players, we want their real personalities in the field.
“It’s not different between him and other players. It’s really not complicated, only you need to get used to it. It’s about positioning, it’s about reaction, it’s about spaces – defensively, closing them: offensively, use them.” Klopp added.

Klopp, meanwhile, he doesn’t want to get reckless. But his star will still have to take his patience a few weeks or more if progress in training and in the coming deadlines is not as significant.
“Things like that, only to explain a little bit. That’s completely normal. It’s always different but it will happen because it’s not really difficult, it’s only because the game is so quick and so intense, it needs to get natural.” Klopp said.
“Three, four, five weeks only in football sounds like really long period. Otherwise, you would always say to improve something give it half a year or whatever to really make the next step in your career. That’s it, nothing else.” Former Borussia Dortmund manager added.
