Thiago Motta felt that the Juventus-AS Roma game was a balanced affair and a draw was a fair result for both teams.
Both Juventus and Roma had just one shot on target, with the home side’s expected goals (xG) total of 0.47, just slightly better than their opponents’ 0.37.
“I think it was a fair result, in a balanced game. We didn’t concede and we have one more point in the table,” said Motta.
“I’m very satisfied with the team and their commitment. We could have done much better today in terms of precision in the offensive phase, but the opponents knew how to defend and didn’t give us space.”
It was the first time since 2014/15 that Juventus have kept a clean sheet in their first three Serie A games of the season.
“Today we were too aggressive. Sometimes we played well, sometimes they played well, it was a very difficult and balanced game,” added Motta.
“We failed to understand the right moments to attack Roma, who, it must be underlined, are a great team. Offensively, we could have done better.”
Juve’s only shot on target before the break came from striker Dusan Vlahovic, who opened his account for the season with a double in Verona.
Against Roma, he had more attempts, but none of them created a threat inside the visitors’ penalty area.
“Vlahovic? I saw him very well. He always helps the team,” said Motta.
“Sometimes he scores, sometimes not, but in my team as a striker I don’t just look at goals. He has to continue like this.”
