Kamaru Usman has recently taken time to respond to the critics who continue to emphasise that the Nigerian’s famed days are over.
Having recently gone through a grueling phase where he suffered three consecutive defeats, Usman wants to prove the skeptics wrong and reclaim his position as a first-rate contender.
“I didn’t care what I was going through; I didn’t care what I was dealing with; I didn’t care what I was battling physically, mentally, emotionally.” Usman said.
“It didn’t matter to me. I was going to jump in there and perform and perform and perform. And the same thing with Israel Adesanya, which is why you saw a ton of those title defenses.” Usman added.
Usman, who ascended to the welterweight champion title and has been a force ever since revealed that he has competed against some of the most challenging rivalries in the cage.
The fight against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 294 can be considered as his latest fight which was very tough even though he lost.
However, the former UFC welterweight champion has every reason to be confident noting that he still has a lot to offer to the UFC having suffered the losses.
Usman is at the moment preparing for his comeback into the octagon determined to show the world that he is still capable of challenging for the title.
“Now, I’m in a place where, OK, with all of that comes a lot of injuries, all the things that you’ve been dealing with.” Usman said.
“It kind of catches up to you. Now I’m just in a position to where I’m trying to heal all of that.” he added.
The next announced match up has not been made yet but whoever the opponent will be it will be a match up that will be very stiff.
Anticipation has been fueled on the likelihood of facing other strong opponents in the division such as young guns and experienced fighters who are looking forward to fighting.
