Karim Benzema’s reaction caught the spotlight when Al Ahly players performed a Cristiano Ronaldo-style Siuuu celebration. As is known, Karim Benzema recently had to accept a bitter pill after his team, Al Ittihad, lost to representatives of the African continent from Egypt, Al Ahly in the 2023 Club World Cup.
Competing at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, Saturday, 16 December 2023, Karim Benzema and colleagues had to lose with a score of 1-3. Al Ahly opened the scoring through Ai Maaloul in the 21st minute from the penalty spot.
Not long after, it was Al Ittihad’s turn to receive a penalty. Unfortunately, Benzema, who was the executor, failed to convert it into a goal.
Entering the second half, Al Ittihad actually conceded two goals again after Hussein Al Shahat and Emam Ashour’s kicks failed to be anticipated. Al Ittihad was also able to reduce the deficit in injury time through Karim Benzema’s action.
Regardless of the result of the match, there were interesting moments that occurred in the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup. To be precise, it happened in the second half when Al Ahly scored the second goal through Hussein Al Shahat.
After scoring the goal, the 31 year old midfielder immediately ran to the corner of the field. He then jumped up and stretched his arms while shouting Siuuu.
Hussein Al Shahat apparently deliberately celebrated this in front of Karim Benzema. Even so, it is not known for certain what the reason behind the siuuu celebration was.
Was it to mock Karim Benzema who missed a penalty and was two goals behind or because he idolised Cristiano Ronaldo.
Seeing Cristiano Ronaldo’s typical celebration, Karim Benzema’s expression was in the spotlight. The former Real Madrid man looked stunned on the field. The winner of the Ballon d’Or trophy in 2022 seemed unable to believe that his team lost in such a way.
With this result, Al Ittihad had to drop out of the 2023 Club World Cup. Karim Benzema and his colleagues have now returned to Saudi Arabia to focus on playing matches in the 2023-2024 Saudi Arabian League.
On the other hand, Al Ahly, who managed to qualify for the semifinals, will face representatives from Brazil, Fluminense. Another semifinal match will bring together Asian representatives from Japan, Urawa Reds, against European representatives, Manchester City.
