Manchester City’s win over Burnley took its toll. The coach, Josep Guardiola confirmed that his flagship midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, has suffered a hamstring injury.
Man City started the 2023-2024 Premier League with an impressive win. Manchester City won three goals without reply over Burnley in the match which took place at Turf Moor, Lancashire, Saturday (12/8/2023).
Manchester City’s goal was scored by Erling Haaland (4′) and (36′) and Rodri (75′). But it’s a shame that Manchester City’s impressive victory at Burnley’s headquarters came at a cost.
Kevin De Bruyne suffered an injury and had to be taken off after appearing for 20 minutes. Josep Guardiola then fielded Mateo Kovacic to replace Kevin De Bruyne’s role in midfield.
After the match, Josep Guardiola revealed the current condition of the Belgian player. The Spaniard confirmed Kevin De Bruyne had a hamstring injury.
“That’s the hamstring again. Same position. I don’t know (how long he will be out) it depends on how big the injury is but will be out for a few weeks, of course, he is sick because he fights a lot,” Guardiola said as quoted by the club’s official website, Saturday (12/8/2023).
Josep Guardiola already has a feeling Kevin De Bruyne is not fit enough to play. However, Kevin De Bruyne himself conveyed to him that he was ready to play in this match.
“He (De Bruyne) is feeling very good and I spoke to him. He wants to start. Playing 45 minutes was his idea, he was injured in the Champions League final after 25 minutes. He is feeling very good and I spoke to him and he said he feels perfect,” Guardiola clarified
“He wants to start playing 45 or 50 minutes, that’s the idea. Unfortunately it happened and of course he is disappointed but he is strong and he will come back.”
“Maybe it was a mistake. But when someone gets hurt after 15 to 20 minutes, it’s not about that, it’s about something that went wrong,” continued the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach.
Kevin De Bruyne is expected to be sidelined for quite a long time. Josep Guardiola also reminded the 32-year-old player to think clearly so he can recover as soon as possible.
“If it happens after 60 to 65 minutes it could be muscle fatigue. We have to talk to the doctor and with him. He has to free his mind and he will definitely come back.”
