Kevin Durant’s request for a trade from the Brooklyn Nets was the topic of much speculation throughout the NBA summer.
The 33-year-old power forward overall decided to stay with the Nets after some consideration and back and forth with management.
“I want to be in a stable environment as we try to build a champion culture. I had doubts about this Brooklyn setting, so I voiced that concern to Joe [Tas].” Durant said.
“I made a four-year commitment to this franchise, but several uncertainties appeared in our team during the last season.” he added.
The fact that there were no practical outcomes was probably the worst aspect of the entire story. After months of stalemate, the Nets simply met with Durant and told him that they would not trade him.
Durant would have even tried to force his way out of the team, demanding the resignation of head coach Steve Nash and general manager Sean Marks. He insisted, however, that his position has changed.
“We entered into an agreement that, in short, the best thing for everyone would be to move forward.” Durant said.
“I like the moves Sean closed in the offseason and the changes in the team. I know we screwed things up last season, but it’s not about that anymore. I have faith that the team and I have the same goals going forward.” Durant added.
Durant is now just looking forward to getting on the court. He guarantees, after all, that the time to leave the troubled offseason behind has arrived.
“I wasn’t disappointed because at the end of the day, I still love playing basketball. That’s the most important thing, and so I know I won’t let myself be affected by what’s happened in the last few months.” Durant said.
