Manchester City have been banned from Champions League for next two seasons for breaking Financial Fair Play regulations and a £30m fine.
The Premier League defending champion have to spend more is due to the injury problems. Due to this Pep Guardiola has to play bench players and they are targeted by opposition. They have a lot of long term injured players as well as short ones as well.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has reacted to City’s sanctions but the German has refused to discuss the issue further.
“It was a shock when it came out. Big wow. The only thing I can say, I’m a football coach, so I can speak about football,” Klopp said.
“What Pep [Guardiola] and Man City did in England is exceptional, absolutely exceptional. The rest, I don’t know. You believe the people you work with, that’s how it is. I can imagine it’s really difficult for the sportspeople to understand. I really feel for them, for Pep and the players.
“It’s the first verdict, they will appeal and we’ll see what happens then. It’s obviously serious, otherwise, UEFA wouldn’t react like that. The football they played and play was exceptional and will continue to be exceptional.” Klopp added.
City have announced that they will appeal to the Arbitration Tribunal for Sport (CAS). They said they are disappointed but not surprised by UEFA’s decision.
Obviously, when Sheik Mansour bought City, and started investing money in the club, there was no FFP rule. Owners were allowed to supplement their team with money, but once more extraordinarily rich owners started buying football clubs, FFP came into play, and works along these lines.
According to reports, FFP states that a club may not spend more than they have made over the course of a year, and cannot accept outside deals from owners if they wish to spend money on transfers.
