Kristaps Porzingis Speaks About His Journey to the NBA Finals with the Celtics

Kristaps Porzingis burst onto the NBA scene as a sensation when he joined the New York Knicks in 2015.

Embraced by the iconic Phil Jackson, he was seen as the beacon of hope for the team’s future.

However, despite high hopes, he struggled to meet expectations and was eventually traded.

Reflecting on his journey, he acknowledges the long road he’s traveled from that hopeful young player to competing in the finals for the Boston Celtics.

“I was just an ignorant kid when I got to the NBA, prepared to take over the world. I think it was an appropriate stance for that moment.” Porzingis said.

“But today, I’m much more mature. And besides, I have a different mindset. I’m going to compete for a title and I’m in a perfect situation for myself. So, nothing else matters to me.” Porzingis added.

Porzingis’ exit from the Knicks took everyone by surprise. The trade came as a bombshell, catching many off guard.

His career took a downward turn after the departure. However, in Boston, he has discovered a familiar atmosphere akin to his time in New York in terms of support.

Celtics fans have embraced him with the same unwavering support he experienced in New York.

“Playing in New York is insane, first of all. The videos of New Yorkers leaving the gym after a win are crazy. They became one of my favorite things to watch.” Porzingis said.

“I can compare this to playing here in Boston, as they are two cities with very strong and passionate fans. Everyone is close to their team and that is very special.” he added.

Prior to joining the Celtics, Porzingis had previously played for their NBA Finals opponent, the Dallas Mavericks.

However, his time with the Mavericks did not pan out as expected. The partnership with Luka Doncic faced challenges, leading to a setback in his career.

Despite this, Porzingis has admitted the fit issues and holds no ill will toward Dallas.
