Finally Kyle Edmund from Britain has qualified for Grand Slam and is ready to join Andy Murray. Kyle Edmund has defeated Dane Propoogia at Australian Open by 6 – 7 (3-7)6-4 9-7. Now he will be joining Andy Murray and James Ward in the main draw and he will be serving as the third British man.
After 2002, this is for the first time that together three British men are now up for playing singles at Melbourne. Meanwhile, Liam Broady was defeated by Michael Russell by 7 – 5 6 – 3. During the first round, Kyle Edmund will be playing against Steve Johnson from America. Among top ranking, Steve Johnson is at 39th number and he is 153 places above Kyle Edmund. On the other hand, Andy Murray will be playing against Yuki Bhambri from India.
On talking with BBC Sport, Kyle Edmund said, “Everyone’s desperate to qualify so winning three matches against tough players definitely gives me confidence going into the main draw,”
In regard to partisan crowd, Kyle Edmund said, “I dealt with it pretty well. You’re obviously prepared for that when playing an Australian in Australia; you’re going to get some banter from the crowd. It’s no different from Wimbledon where they’re going to support me.”
On joining of Edmund with Andy Murray, BBC correspondent of tennis Russell Fuller said, “This is another significant milestone in Edmund’s career, just a week after his 20th birthday. The draw was relatively kind, but it’s not easy closing out a match when there’s a Grand Slam main draw appearance on the line – especially as he had never been in that position before and was taking on an Aussie in Australia. Edmund’s serve is becoming a potent weapon and he has a habit of working his way out of trouble with impressive composure.”
According to the news, Kyle Edmund has tried all his levels high for getting success in the upcoming match. He said, “Serving for it at 5-3 but getting broken – it’s always in the back of your mind that you had that chance. You’ve just got to reset and try and get that break again.”
On talking with BBC sports Broady said for Edmund, “I just lost a bit of rhythm and he’s a very smart, very experienced player, and it showed today. When I play 8/10 at this level, its good enough, but my 6/10 isn’t good enough yet and that’s what needs to improve. It’s been a fantastic trip – it obviously exceeds expectations of probably most people apart from my own little group.”
