Williams Martini Racing team driver Lance Stroll predicted he will face biggest challenge of his Formula 1 racing career this weekend as he paces the narrow streets of Monaco Circuit.
The 18-year-old will negotiate this 3.4 kilometer circuit for the first time in his career, and although he hopes to finally score his first ranking point, he admits in an interview on Wednesday that he expected a tough weekend.
“I would have loved to score my first in Russia, you know,” Stroll said. “I do not want to be negative, but I expect a risky weekend. This will be my first race here, and this circuit does not help our car.”
Stroll is also disadvantaged by his thin experience on urban circuits. The main stakeholder recalled that he had run on such tracks only in Pau, France, and Macao, in cras much less powerful than a Formula One.
Nevertheless, the Canadian rookie intends to savor every moment spent on the bitumen of the Monaco tracks, where F1’s fans rub shoulders with the millionaires.
“It’s a dream to ride here in Monaco,” Stroll said. “This is one of the most “cool” races of the season. I was watching the Grand Prix on TV when I was little, and now I am there. This will be very special, especially as I have friends who have traveled for the occasion. But to be honest with you, the only races that excites me more than Monaco is Montreal in two weeks.” he added.
Williams’ technical director Pady Lowe recalled the magnitude of the task ahead for his drivers Fellipe Massa and Lance Stroll. The approached will be all the more different as Massa and Stroll are antipodes of the career of a driver. Stroll will play the Monaco Grand Prix for the first time in his career, while Massa will be in his 15th experience.

“Monaco is the most difficult tracks and one of the flagship events of the F1 calendar,” Pady said. “The track itself is very demanding from a technical point of view. Some places are winding, while others are surprisingly fast, so the car must have excellent mechanical qualities while having very good aerodynamic supports.
“The barriers are very close in every corner, so there is no room for error and the drivers can not afford a moment of inattention.” the Englishman added.
