Leeds United Return to the Premier League after 16 years

Leeds United won promotion tickets to the English Premier League next season. These results helped end Leeds’ waiting for 16 years to return to compete in the highest caste competition in England.

Marcelo Bielsa’s squad ensured a promotional ticket after the closest competitor West Bromwich Albion lost 1-2 when they traveled to Huddersfield Town headquarters.

The defeat suffered by West Brom made Leeds the lowest end of the Championship Division competition in the top two positions. As is known only champions and second place Championship Division are entitled to direct ticket promotion to the Premier League.

Leeds currently occupy the top position by collecting 87 points from 44 matches. While West Brom packed 82 points from 45 matches.

The Whites, nicknamed Leeds, will also ensure the Championship Division title if the third-ranked team, Brentford fails to defeat host Stoke City on Saturday (18/7). Another option is Leeds won one point when serving Derby County to ensure the title on Sunday (7/19).

The success of Leeds won a promotion ticket can not be separated from the cold hands of Bielsa. The Argentine coach successfully turned a team based at Elland Road Stadium to become the top team of the Championship Division.

In the last season, Leeds could actually step up to the semifinals of the Championship Division playoffs. However, the move of Pablo Hernandez et al to step into the final was stopped by Derby County.

The failure was paid in full this season. Leeds performed convincingly from the start of the season to finally ensuring a ticket to appear in the Premier League next season.

Leeds itself is not a foreign name in competition in the Premier League stage. The club which is identical with white color was once a respected team in 1997-2001.

Leeds had qualified for the 2001 Champions League semifinals and have been strengthened by great players like Eric Cantona, Rio Ferdinand, Jonathan Woodgate, Alan Smith, Lee Bowyer, Harry Kewell to Mark Viduka.

Unfortunately financial problems make Leeds continue to experience a decline in achievement. The Yorkshire team had also been relegated to League One or the English League third caste competition in 2007.
