Leicester City officially released two legends, namely Wes Morgan and Christian Fuchs at the end of this season. Morgan and Fuchs will no longer be in Leicester’s uniform starting next season after ending their contract which runs out in June 2021.
Morgan decided to retire after turning 37 years old. He joined Leicester City in January 2012 and promoted to caption later that year. He captaining the team to the Championship title in 2014 and their first Premier League title two years later. He was the first Jamaican player to score in a UEFA Champions League game.
“Leicester City’s Premier League winning captain, Wes Morgan, will retire at the end of the season after nine hugely successful years at the club and a career spanning more than 750 professional matches,” read a statement from Leicester.
Meanwhile, Fuchs (35 years) has the potential to continue his career because he has not decided to retire yet. “Leicester City legend Christian Fuchs will leave the club at the end of the 2020-2021 season, after six hugely successful years lifting the Premier League and FA Cup,” read a statement from Leicester.
Fuchs is an Austrian professional footballer who plays as a left back for Leicester city. He is also the former captain of Austrian National team. Fuchs joined Leicester in June 2015 under free-transfer signing. Prior to signing for Leicester, Fuchs had an offer to play in the United States, where his family live, but he turned it down.
He said in March 2016, “My intention is to play in the US. I have come [to Leicester] for three years. I decided that I would sign one last contract in Europe, when I left Schalke, then go to the US.” Yet, story went differently as he continued his career in Leicester till now.
As Leicester City have stated, Wes Morgan and Christian Fuchs have been crowned club legends. The two players were an important part of Leicester when they made a beautiful fairy tale by winning the 2015-2016 Premier League.
They also succeeded in making The Foxes, nicknamed Leicester, win the 2021 FA Cup trophy. Wes Morgan as Leicester captain has made 323 appearances with a record of 14 goals and five assists. Meanwhile, Christian Fuchs has contributed three goals and 13 assists from 152 caps with The Foxes. Apart from Morgan and Fuchs, Leicester also officially released the midfielder Matty James at the end of this season.
