Former world heavyweight champion Lenox Lewis believes that Tyson Fury (30-0-1, 21 KO) can beat the reining IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in 2021.
Fury beat Deontay Wilder in the second fight with landing perfect jabs and setting up power shots back in February.
“The Fury and Joshua fight, you have got two big guys and they can punch and they can box. You’ve got Fury, he is a switch hitter and he is going into the fight with a lot more dangerous things to watch out for, the fact that he can punch with left hand, with his right.” Lewis said.
“He is a slugger as well, the way he went after Deontay [Wilder], nobody expected that. He said what he is going to do and he did it. I like guys who box with confidence like that.” Lewis added.
Fury is a better boxer than Joshua and moves well for his size, but lacks the traits that preserve champions so far.
“I have always said that it is always difficult boxing taller guys. He is 6ft 9, you are not going to get any sparring partners who are 6ft 9 to go in there. AJ has to figure that out as well. It is going to take him a few rounds.” Lewis said.
Fury has confirmed that he won’t fight again until 2021. Meanwhile, Joshua will defend his IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles against Kubrat Pulev on December 12 at The O2 in London.
“In heavyweight boxing, you can never count your chickens before they hatch, so one fight at a time. One victory at a time.” Fury said.
“All going well, god willing, we get on the big fight with me and Joshua, the all-British showdown and I can give the fans what they want to see, especially the British fans.
“Two-fight deal, Fury vs Joshua next year. One problem? I’ve got to smash Wilder. Then we go into the Joshua fight. It’s on, next year, but there is a hurdle in the road called Wilder.” Fury added.
