Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) lost 0-2 to Rennes in the Ligue 1 continued at Roazhon Park Stadium, Sunday (3/10).
PSG appeared with a trio of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe when they visited Rennes headquarters. In addition there are also Achraf Hakimi, Angel Di Maria, and Marco Verratti as starters at PSG.
Messi for the first time full play in the Ligue 1 this season against Rennes. However, the presence of La Pulga on PSG’s front lines was not able to give PSG victory.
Goals from Gaetan Laborde at the end of the first half and Flavien Tait at the beginning of the second half became the decisive victory for Rennes over PSG. This is the first time PSG have tasted defeat since bringing Messi from Barcelona.
Facing a series of stars in the guest camp, Rennes dared to appear attacking. Gianluigi Donnarumma’s goal was already under threat from the first minute.
Les Parisiens also tried to respond by taking advantage of the presence of the MNM trio and the support of agile midfielders and fullbacks.
While PSG’s attack failed to produce a goal due to poor finishing and Rennes’ defense coordination was quite good, Donnarumma’s goal was repeatedly faced with dangerous situations.
Messi’s golden opportunity from a free kick in the 31st minute still hit the bar and failed to change the score.
PSG then looked dominant over Rennes and produced several chances, but no goals were found. Towards the end of the first half, Gaetan Laborde broke into the PSG goal using Kamaldeen Sulemana’s cross.
The second half has only been running for less than a minute, PSG conceded again. Flavien Tait scored after capitalizing on a pull pass from Laborde who ran from the right. Rennes’ second goal decision also had to wait for a video review from VAR to see if the ball had left the field before being sent into the penalty box.
After the score became 2-0, PSG tried to attack more vigorously. While Rennes counterattack also looked stinging.
PSG then locked the Rennes defense, but there was no gap that could be exploited.
In the 69th minute Mbappe scored, but it was not confirmed because according to VAR the French player was offside.
Rennes also had a chance to add a goal after the referee pointed to the spot in the 82nd minute following Laborde’s clash with Hakimi. However, a 12-time shot was voided for Rennes following footage from VAR.
Until the game broke up, the score was 2-0 for Rennes to survive.
