Lionel Messi Gets Green Light to Return at PSG after Covid-19 Recovery

Paris Saint-Germain striker Lionel Messi has tested negative for COVID-19 in the latest test and has gone to the airport to return to the Paris.

The Ligue 1 club announced that Lionel Messi was infected with COVID-19 on January 2. The Argentine striker is at home to welcome the new year 2022 so far. Hence, when he was infected, the PSG player was unable to take a flight to join PSG and his teammates.

“The four players that tested positive for Covid-19 are Leo Messi, Juan Bernat, Sergio Rico and Nathan Bitumazala. They are currently in isolation and are subject to the appropriate health protocol.” PSG said in a statement.

The Argentine press discovered on January 4 that Messi had boarded a plane to leave the city of Rosario and move to France. Accordingly, the latest PCR test results of this star are negative.

PSG will have a match against Lyon on January 9. A week later, they faced Brest Club. It is not clear if Messi will be able to play in the match taking place at the weekend or not, because the French government is imposing a strict isolation order.

The possibility of Messi playing for PSG in the match against Lyon is quite small because even after the isolation period ends and returns to France, the striker also needs to rest for a few more days.

Argentina will meet Chile on January 27 and Colombia on February 1 in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers. However, Messi is likely to play only 1-2 matches for PSG in January, when facing other teams: Lyon, Brest and Reims.

The French national championship Ligue 1 has been on winter break since December 23 and will only return on January 9.

PSG currently has 46 points after 19 matches, 13 points more than the second ranked team, Nice. In the French Cup, PSG beat Feignies Aulnoye 3-0 and Vannes 4-0.
