The Argentine star and captain Lionel Messi revealed his team’s two main strengths in the 2019 Copa America after beating Venezuela 2-0 in the quarter-final match on Saturday (29/6) this morning.
Argentina’s two winning goals in this match each created in the first round through the action of Lautaro Martinez and in the second half of the match through Giovani Lo Celso.
Messi himself cannot do enough in this fight. However, La Pulga praised his teammates who were able to show maximum performance.
Messi also highlighted two things that became Albiceleste’s weapon in silencing Venezuela. These two things are tight pressing and fast counterattacks.
“We did not provide the slightest space when they began carrying out attacks to score goals,” Messi said after the match was quoted as saying by Marca.
“We played very tightly and we were waiting for the chance to counterattack quickly,” added the Barcelona player.
This victory makes Argentina qualify for the last four and will face the eternal rival and host, Brazil on Wednesday (3/7) future.
The meeting at the Estadio Mineirao, Belo Horizonte will be the first Argentine and Brazilian duel in an official match in a major tournament since the last time they met in the 2007 Copa America final.
Interesting to look forward to whether in the match Messi will be able to issue his best ability, or even again see Argentina tragically eliminated.
