Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed that he was “not in the mood” to talk the Premier League title race.
Klopp’s comment came in response to the press room atmosphere, which he felt was overly somber and focused on questioning him.
The German sent a clear message to his players and the media: the focus should be on the game, the team’s performance, and maintaining a winning mentality.
“I’m not in the mood to talk about that to be honest or look at that at all,” he told TNT Sports.
“We had to win here, we knew that, and we didn’t, and now we have a little bit more time between now and the next game. We try to get the boys ready again and we will go again.” Klopp added.
Liverpool’s recent form has been inconsistent, with dropped points in several matches. This has made their pursuit of the Premier League title more challenging.
Despite exceeding expectations by entering the title race, Liverpool’s recent stumbles against Everton and West Ham have left them with little control over their own destiny.
“Tough schedule, definitely, but inexperience as well. Did anybody expect us to become champions at the beginning of the season? No, but it developed in this direction.” Klopp said.
“We go now to Aston Villa [on May 13], they – and Tottenham – have a few points less than us, so we still need points to be definitely qualified for the Champions League, which is obviously a real target.” he added.
The Reds is currently 5 points behind Arsenal and 4 points behind Manchester City in the Premier League. Their focus has shifted towards securing a top-four finish to qualify for the Champions League.
Liverpool has three more matches remaining in the 2023/2024 Premier League season. Two of these matches will be played at home at Anfield, while one will be an away match.
