Liverpool vs Chelsea Result: Score 2-1

Liverpool successfully silenced Chelsea in the eighth week of the 2024/2025 Premier League at Anfield, Sunday (20/10/2024).

This duel was very fierce and tough. Both teams competed with each other but had difficulty creating dangerous opportunities.

Liverpool’s goals were scored by Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones. Meanwhile, Chelsea’s goal was scored by Nicolas Jackson.

This result brought Liverpool back to the top of the 2024/2025 Premier League standings, displacing Manchester City with a collection of 21 points from eight matches. Meanwhile, Chelsea dropped to sixth place with 14 points.

This duel was exciting. Both teams played at a fairly high tempo from the start of the match. Liverpool tried to attack. However, Chelsea also played offensively.

Chelsea’s game turned out to be able to trouble Liverpool. The Blues were able to prevent The Reds’ attacks and often pressured their defense.

In the 19th minute, Liverpool fans almost cheered with joy. Because Gakpo successfully intercepted a pass from Sanchez. Fortunately, the ball that bounced back was still secured by the goalkeeper.

In the 32nd minute Liverpool scored another goal from Gakpo. However, the referee disallowed it because Salah was previously caught offside before passing to the Dutch player.

Chelsea then put pressure on Liverpool’s defense again. They often exploited the space between the midfield and the back plus the Reds’ wing area.

In the 45+2 minute Chelsea actually got shock therapy. The referee gave Liverpool another penalty after Sanchez was considered to have violated Curtis Jones. However, after a VAR check, the referee overturned his decision to give a kick from the 12-yard spot for The Reds.

In the end, the first half ended. Liverpool 1-0 Chelsea.

In the second half, the duel was fierce again. However, Chelsea was able to score a quick goal in the 48th minute.

Nicolas Jackson scored against Kelleher after escaping an offside. VAR checked the validity of the goal and after a while, the goal was declared clean. 1-1.

However, in the 51st minute, Liverpool were able to regain the lead. Curtis Jones scored against Chelsea after running in from the second line to meet Salah’s in-swinging pass from the right wing. 2-1!

In the 61st minute, Chelsea got a chance from Madueke’s first-time shot from inside the penalty box, meeting a pass from the left flank. But the ball went straight into Kelleher’s arms.

The duel then went fiercely. Both teams attacked each other but had difficulty creating dangerous opportunities.

In the 90+6 minute, Luis Diaz accelerated from the left and cut into the middle. He then entered the penalty box and fired a shot at the far post. But the ball only went to the left side of the goal.

In the end, no additional goals were scored. Liverpool won 2-1 over Chelsea.
