Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest

Liverpool’s impressive run in the Premier League continued after 6-1 win over Leeds United on Monday night. In one of the most anticipated matched of the Premier League season, Liverpool locked horns against a spirited Nottingham Forest on 22nd April, 2023 at Anfield, where the Red Devil’s emerged victorious with a close fought 3-2 victory.

Liverpool handled Nottingham Forest’s plan to fight fire with fire, getting a pair of goals from Diogo Jota. Mohamed Salah bagged the winner for the free-scoring Reds, handing them a much needed victory and a good chance of making it into the top 4.

The match was a to-and-from action for both the teams as they put in every ounce of their blood, sweat, and spirit to seal a victory that eventually went Liverpool’s way. Five goals were scored in the match between both teams. The first half of the match went goalless, but then on it was a flurry of goals, as all five goals were scored in a span of 23 minutes.

Diogo Jota opened the account for his team as he scored the opening goal in the 47th minute, giving the Red Devil’s the much needed leave, only to be followed by a strick from Neco Williams in the 51st minute to bring Nottingham level. Jota then scored hsi second gola of the night and for his team 4 minutes later to help Liverpool take a 2-1 lead in the 55th minute.

The match again went into a levelled combat as Morgan Gibbs-White scored the equalizer in the 67th minute to bring the scores level. However, Nottingham’s celebration and valiance came to a halt when Mohamed Salah scored the winning goal in the 70th minute and Liverpool managed to maintain this lead till the end as they bagged a much needed 3-2 win at Anfield.

With this hard fought victory, Liverpool now occupies the seventh spot, three points behind Tottenham and six points behind Newcastle in fourth place. Despite playing one more game than Liverpool, Aston Villa leads the Reds by one point. This suggests that Liverpool still has more options available to them for moving up the standings.

In contrast, Nottingham Forest is currently in the bottom three and has gone ten games without a victory, while Liverpool is nine points down of Newcastle United in fourth place in the race for the top four. Though, their performance in this match was worth appreciation, it was just not enough to end their winless streak this season. They are currently at 19th place with 27 points.

The match however, was also notable for another peculiar, yet heart-warming moment that took place between the supporters of both the teams. While the match was on it’s way, In sympathy of the Hillsborough victims, Nottingham Forest supporters unveiled a banner on which they demanded a stop to “tragedy chanting.”
