Emre Can has expressed his unhappiness at rumours over his future as the uncertainty surrounding his Liverpool career continues. Can is out of contract in the summer and, with negotiations over a new Anfield deal having reached an impasse last year, has put all talk of his next move on hold until the end of the season. Juventus are keen to sign the Germany international while Can’s former club Bayern Munich and Manchester City have emerged as possible contenders. A report over the weekend claimed the 24-year-old was demanding more than £200,000 a week to stay at Liverpool. And it was to this story Can is thought to have been referring when he posted a message on Instagram on Monday evening underlining his displeasure.
“I’ve just returned from international duty with the German team and working on coming back from injury,” he wrote. “Interesting stories about me in the press! “I’m no longer going to comment on any false stories or rumours! “Looking forward to getting back on the pitch asap. EC” Can was released from the Germany squad on Sunday and returned to Melwood for further treatment on the back injury that forced him off during the first half of the 5-0 Anfield win over Watford nine days ago.
Emre Can hit out at speculation surrounding his future after being forced to return to Liverpool from international duty with a back injury. The German ace sat out Friday’s draw with Spain and was sent back to Melwood by his country as ‘ongoing back problems’ left him ‘without a chance of playing against Brazil’ in a friendly in Berlin on Tuesday. The 24-year-old is out of contract at the end of this season and its thought he wants a £200,000-a-week deal in order to stay at Anfield.
With Liverpool reluctant to offer him such a high wage packet, Manchester City, Juventus and Bayern Munich have been reported to be monitoring his situation. But Can responded angrily to talk about his future and slated the ‘false’ stories linking him with a move away. He posted on Instagram: ‘I’ve just returned from international duty with the German team and working on coming back from injury. ‘Interesting stories about me in the press! ‘I’m no longer going to comment on any false stories or rumours! ‘Looking forward to getting back on the pitch asap.’
