Real Madrid legend Predrag Mijatovic insists that losing a player like Sergio Ramos could be as bad for the club as Cristiano Ronaldo’s loss.
Ramos is an irreplaceable figure in the heart of the Los Blancos defense. He has appeared in 641 matches by scoring 92 goals while helping his team win 21 prestigious titles.
Ramos’s contract with Los Merengues will expire in the summer of 2021. However, Madrid has not yet offered a contract extension for Ramos.
As a result, Ramos began to be associated with the Santiago Bernabeu exit. If that happens, he will follow in the footsteps of the legends released by the club.
For the past few years Madrid seems to have a tradition of releasing its legend to other clubs. Examples are Raul Gonzalez and Iker Casillas who moved to Schalke and Porto.
“We cannot let our players help other teams, because they must be ours,” the former Madrid striker said. “I want this policy back,” Mijatovic told Stats Perform News.
“Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen at Real Madrid. Raul has a great history at Real Madrid and goes the bad way, Fernando Hierro is the same, Casillas too.”
Must Retire at the Club
Mijatovic stressed that Ramos had to finish his career at Real Madrid. For this reason, he urged the club to immediately give him a new contract.
“Now they are talking about Sergio Ramos [doing the same thing]. His contract must be extended, two or three years, no problem. He must complete his career at Real Madrid,” he continued.
Important player
Despite being 34 years old, Mijatovic believes that Ramos still has a lot to offer to Real Madrid. Mijatovic regards Ramos as a very important player at the club.
“He is important, almost like a club treasure. Both for what he has done and what he can do in the future, maybe not on the pitch, but teaching young players who join Real Madrid on how to play, behave and adapt to the club “That’s what has to happen,” he said.
Take off Ronaldo
Madrid also released Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus in 2018. Meanwhile there was also speculation that Luka Modric could leave the club in the near future.
“If I were at the club, I would not let players like Cristiano [Ronaldo], Sergio Ramos or Luka Modric leave,” Mijatovic said.
“They are players who despite losing a bit of fitness over the years, they are always positive for the players who will come.”
