Luis Enrique Says Portugal Players Are Better Than Spain

Portugal on Wednesday suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Spain in the UEFA Nations League finals.

Alvaro Morata scored a dramatic late goal to send Spain into the Nations League semi-finals against the home team in Braga.

Portugal dominated the match but were unable to make the breakthrough. However, Spain head coach Luis Enrique made a controversial comment when comparing the power of his side with the Portugal players.

“Portugal has many better players than us. They have main faces in the Premier League, La Liga and a few other major leagues.” Enrique said.

“Portugal exports a lot of players. I hope I hope both teams will make a big deal in the 2022 World Cup,” Enrique added.

The Portugal and Spain national team are in the group of favourites to win the Qatar World Cup 2022.

In the last match in the Nations League 2022, Spain lost to Switzerland with a score of 1-2. This is also the first loss of Spain after 4 years. Meanwhile, Portugal beat the Czech Republic with a score of 4-0.

“We planned this match carefully and consider it as important as the quarter-final of the World Cup. Spain needs a win. Even a draw is not advisable. I think that Portugal is also determined in this match,” Enrique said.

When asked about choosing a favourite tean to win the 2022 World Cup, coach Enrique said: “No matter what World Cup, Brazil and Argentina are still bright faces. They are as strong as the top teams in Europe.”

“However, No one dares to exclude formidable opponents like France or England from the championship race.” he added.

Statistics on goals In the Nations League 2022, Spain lost 29.4% of its matches. This is also the most losses this team has ever had in a big championship.
