One of the most prestigious properties in Macau Studio City is all set to open its VIP gaming operations for its guests. After an announcement made in July to bring VIP gaming tables to its Studio City Casino Macau property, Melco Crown Entertainment Limited has now revealed that its VIP gaming operations at the Cotai Strip venue would start anytime this month.
Studio City Casino Macau opened in October without VIP gaming facilities which were described as a business decision by Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, Chief Executive Officer for Melco Crown Entertainment Limited. This property was designed to feature some 250 new to market mass market tables and in subsequent months new properties including Wynn Palace Cotai got launched and to keep in mind venues underperformance it is important to do something to do something to uplift revenue per table.
Ted Chan Ying Tat, Chief Operating Officer for Melco Crown Entertainment Limited said: “We have one to two [junket operator] partners plus our own in-house VIP play,” “The VIP play facilities will be opened all at the same time. Hopefully, the VIP facilities will be opened this month.”
Ted Chan further added,
“We’ve confirmed [operations] with the [junket] partners, but we still have to discuss [the allocation of] tables. The renovation has been pretty much finished. We are ready anytime, in the sense that after all this [discussion] settles, the government will have no problem in approving [the VIP tables],”
Chan also said:
September is traditionally a low month. I think we need to observe one month or two before concluding [a trend],” “For the gross gaming revenue in the upcoming fourth quarter, because it will be compared against a lower base last year, there is a chance that we will see a positive note.”
“And here [Cotai] we have new resorts that opened – Wynn Palace and, next week, Parisian Macao: we hope that we’ll see a positive note in the fourth quarter.”
Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, Chief Executive Officer for Melco Crown Entertainment Limited said last month, “Consistent with our approach of maximizing profitability through yield management, we are in the process of setting up rolling chip operations at Studio City Casino Macau including both junket and premium direct VIP offerings.”
