The acid attack incident experienced by Malaysian footballer, Faisal Halim, is very heartbreaking. He is reportedly suffered from burns on his face, hands and back. Currently, Faisal is undergoing intensive treatment at the hospital.
The Malaysian and Selangor FC national team player underwent skin graft surgery imported from Belgium for 30,000 ringgit. Faisal Halim was doused with acid by an unknown person while he was at a shopping center in Kota Damansara, Petaling District, Selangor, Malaysia, Sunday (5/5/2024). The 26-year-old player suffered fourth-degree burns due to exposure to sulfuric acid, so he had to undergo skin graft treatment. “Faisal’s medical costs have been covered by insurance, but we want the best for him,” said Selangor Committee Chairman, Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar.
“As you know, the best treatment usually involves high costs,” Shahril continued. For this reason, Shahril said, Selangor Regent Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah ensured that the government would also help with Faisal’s medical costs. Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar also revealed that a skin graft operation would be carried out soon. “Based on the surgeon’s information, further procedures will probably be carried out this week,” he said.
“Skin grafts are considered the highest standard for treating burns in patients who do not have enough skin to cover burns on the body,” he added. Meanwhile, Selangor FC announced it was withdrawing from the Charity Cup following attacks on Faisal Halim and threats to the team over the past 72 hours.
“Selangor FC has been informed of the decision of the Malaysian Football League (MFL) to proceed with the Charity Shield match which is scheduled to take place on 10 May 2024,” said a club statement. “After much consideration and detailed discussions with various parties following a series of recent criminal incidents and threats involving several players and team officials in the space of just 72 hours, the club has reluctantly decided not to participate in the 2024 Charity Cup matches.”
Apart from Faisal Halim, Safiq Rahim was attacked by two people on a motorbike in an incident that caused the rear window of his car to break in Johor Bahru yesterday. Muhammad Akhyar Abdul Rashid also suffered injuries in a mugging near his house.
