Mamadou Mbacke is set to leave Barcelona this summer. The 21-year-old Senegalese defender joined Barcelona on loan from Los Angeles FC last summer, after spending the previous season on loan at Villarreal B.
However, it seems that Mbacke’s chances of breaking into the senior side are limited due to the competition for places in central defense.
Barcelona’s endowment of central defenders means that several players are likely to leave the club this summer, and Mbacke is expected to be one of them.
Mamadou Mbacke’s loan spell at Barcelona has been affected by bureaucratic issues, preventing him from fully integrating into the club.
Despite his potential, it is unlikely that he will be able to secure a place in the senior team without a mass exit of central defenders or if Barcelona decides to execute his buy option and sell him at a profit.
Mbacke will have surgery next Monday, May 6, for a complete rupture of the internal lateral ligament in his left ankle.
After sustaining an ankle injury that, upon closer examination, necessitates surgery, Mbacke has been deemed unfit to participate in their remaining four games of the season, as well as any potential play-offs.
Additionally, his teammate Diego Percan is expected to be sidelined for the next six months due to the need for surgery as well.
Mbacke, born on November 21, 2002, in Rufisque, Senegal, is a ball-playing defender who currently plays for Barcelona B. He stands at 189cm tall and is known for his ability to use both feet.
His current transfer value is estimated to be between 0.4M and 0.6M. His last transfer was from Los Angeles FC to Barcelona in 2023, with Barcelona loaning him for free.
Xavi Hernandez has not only included Mbacke in training sessions for the first team but has also been closely monitoring his progress.
