Manchester City celebrated the Premier League title on Sunday by beating Chelsea 1-0 through Julian Alvarez’s quick goal at the Etihad Stadium.
Treble-chasing Manchester City clinched the title as second-placed Arsenal were beaten by Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
City have also won 12 games in a row in the Premier League.
Forward Jack Grealish was asked if City, who were eight points behind Arsenal at the end of March, have felt unbeaten over the past few weeks.
“Yeah, it’s true. It’s crazy because I spoke to a few players and said imagine if someone said that to win the league you need to win 12 games in a row,” Grealish told Sky Sports as quoted by ESPN.
“I’m not saying I don’t think we can do it but it will be difficult but we have so much talent in this squad and right now we feel unstoppable.”
Manchester City have collected 88 points from 36 matches, seven points more than Arsenal, which has only one game left.
Meanwhile, Frank Lampard’s Chelsea are languishing in 12th place with 43 points.
“It feels surreal now, I’m so happy,” said Erling Haaland.
“Memories that I will have for the rest of my life, we fought so hard.”
Alvarez scored in the 12th minute for the home side who were mostly playing second tier, tucking the ball under goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Kyle Walker’s cross.
Julian Alvarez’s winner meant City have scored 100 goals at The Etihad this season, equaling the record they set in 2018-19 for the most home goals scored in all competitions in a single season by an English top-flight club.
With nothing at stake on Sunday and two big games ahead in the FA Cup and Champions League final City coach Pep Guardiola rested his main players, including goalscorer Erling Haaland.
Guardiola, who won his 10th major trophy at City, made nine changes from the side that beat Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday.
“I really can’t speak much about the manager,” said Grealish. “Look, he’s a bit of an oddball because he knows everything, some games I think: what is he going to do today? And he comes up with a different tactic every game. It’s a pleasure to work with him. I love working with him. I love him.”
Manchester City were crowned champions for the third season in a row and fifth in six years a day earlier than expected when Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat at Forest dashed any lingering hopes the London side had of catching them.
“What a feeling,” midfielder Kalvin Phillips told Sky Sports after making his first Premier League start for City. “I’m happy because we won the league and I knew there might be a chance I could play. I enjoy every moment.”
“This season has been very difficult and probably the lowest point of confidence in my career,” he continued.
Chelsea sportively presented City’s players with a guard of honor before kickoff while thousands of fans rushed onto the pitch after the final whistle.
“I don’t know what to say, I don’t plan on saying anything,” Haaland said. “I feel a special connection with the fans… 36 goals, Premier League trophy, debut season, two finals to go, not a bad start.”
Raheem Sterling came close to equalizing in the second half but John Stones produced a spectacular save after the former City striker beat keeper Stefan Ortega .
Stones embraced Sterling after the near miss, while City fans saluted their former player with a standing ovation when he was substituted.
