Man United finally got Chelsea’s approval to sign Mason Mount. Chelsea melt down after MU submitted a £60 million proposal for Mount. The Athletic journalist, David Ornstein, exclusively reported on Thursday (29/6/2023) that Man United and Chelsea have finally found common ground in Mason Mount’s transfer negotiations.
Chelsea have finally accepted Manchester United’s fourth bid for Mason Mount which is worth a total of 60 million pounds. In detail, Man United is ready to redeem Mount from Chelsea for a fee of 55 million pounds plus a bonus of 5 million pounds.
The difference of five million pounds is crucial because last week, Man United’s third bid for Mount, worth a total of 55 million pounds, was outrightly rejected by Chelsea. Initially, Chelsea wanted MU to come again with a new offer worth 58 million pounds plus 7 million in bonuses. However, in the end the two sides agreed on a price of 55 million pounds plus 5 million in bonuses.
The bonus of five million pounds will be related to Mount’s number of appearances and achievements while defending the MU banner. Sky Sports reports Mount will be tied to a five-year contract with an option for a season extension.
Mason Mount has now received the green light to undergo a medical with his prospective new club, Man United. The Chelsea academy player actually only has one year left on his contract with the London Blue side.
Mount made his debut in the Chelsea senior team in 2017. Until now, he has recorded 33 goals in 195 matches with the Blues. The reason Man United is persistent in pursuing Mason Mount is because coach Erik ten Hag has reportedly admired the player for a long time.
Sky Sports reports that Ten Hag tried to borrow Mount from Chelsea while he was still coaching Ajax. This is based on Mount’s actions when he was loaned by Chelsea to Vitesse Arnhem in the 2017-2018 season. Mount, who was 18 years old at the time, recorded 14 goals and 10 assists in his first season in professional football.
Mount, who is equipped with good skills in executing set-pieces and is capable of releasing vertical passes, will be the right companion for Casemiro in the Man United midfield. Mount’s characteristics are felt to fit the needs of Man United, who are looking for a competitor for Christian Eriksen. The 24-year-old midfielder also has the determination to chase the ball when the team is not in a moment of control.
