Former Manchester United player Paul Ince does not like the way Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to back up Donny van de Beek. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not seem to believe in the ability of Donny van de Beek at Manchester United.
The former Ajax Amsterdam midfielder has only appeared five times with Man United in the 2021-2022 season. Unfortunately, from five opportunities to play, Van de Beek only started twice and only once felt playing full time.
In the Manchester derby last weekend at Old Trafford, Saturday (6/11/2021), Van de Beek only appeared for about 10 minutes. He came on in the 80th minute in the match that ended in Man United’s 0-2 defeat to Manchester City.
According to Ince, Solskjaer is a dream buyer because the coach seemed to really want Van de Beek from Ajax in the summer of 2020. “When Man United bought him from Ajax, Van de Beek thought ‘this is my dream, this is what I’ve been waiting for’,” said Ince, as quoted by Goal, Tuesday (9/11/2021).
“Two years later, he’s on the bench. Ole has really gotten rid of him,” added the former Man United captain. “If I were Van de Beek, I wouldn’t want to play against Man City. You want me to play for 10 minutes after the team hasn’t touched the ball for 88 minutes? It’s a shame,” Ince said.
Paul Ince then saw Van de Beek’s situation at Man United similar to the case of Jesse Lingard, who was prevented from going to West Ham. Jesse Lingard was loaned out by Man United to West Ham in January 2021. There, he found his best form during his half season at the London side.
However, Lingard could not make a permanent move to the Hammers because Solskjaer did not want him to leave with the lure of being included in Man United’s plans. “Solskjaer stopped Jesse Lingard from going to West Ham because he said Lingard would be part of his team,” Ince said. In addition, another legend, Neville thinks that Man United can be a better team if Lingard remains in the squad. “I just think for Jesse personally, he should leave. United could be a better team with someone like Lingard in it.”
