Manchester City is going through a great time and remains alive in the four matches it has played throughout the season. And in their quest to win every title, the Citizen team has taken football precision to another level by hiring astrophysicists for the club.
Pep Guardiola’s side have a 14-point lead over Manchester United at the top of the Premier League. They are also in the final of the Carabao Cup to be played against Tottenham. In the semifinals of the FA Cup they will face Chelsea. And, of course, in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League where they will face Borussia Dortmund.
The ultimate goal of City is to achieve the quadruple of titles to which a Premier League team can aspire, something more than difficult to do, but the possibilities are there. And to leave nothing to chance, the club decided to innovate and evolve by hiring up to four astrophysicists.
According to reports, the board hired four astrophysicists, including Laurie Shaw, who will be part of the data area. They would work for the 10 clubs of the City Football Group.
Big Data has a great impact in various areas and sport is no exception, much less soccer. Data analysis grows by leaps and bounds and any action on the playing field becomes data from which you can take great advantage.
In this sense, the work of astrophysicists within the City Football Group, including City, will be to work in the data area in order to maintain greater monitoring of game actions, through technologies up to 3D type, that take data analysis to another level.
“A physics-based football environment is a place to learn through simulation and to test tactical concepts in ways that are robust enough. as for a coach to risk his career,” Brian Prestidge, CTO of City Football Group said.
