City tried to play aggressively from the start of the match. However, Pep Guardiola’s troops still had difficulty breaking down Feyenoord’s defense which appeared quite disciplined.
In the 41st minute, Quinten Timber fouled Haaland in the penalty box. After checking the VAR, the referee awarded City a penalty which was converted into a goal by Haaland.
Back from the dressing room, City went crazy. The hosts scored two goals in three minutes, each through Gundogan’s action (50′) and Haaland’s second goal (53′).
However, City’s performance then plummeted. Starting with Anis Hadj Moussa’s goal in the 75th minute, Feyenoord began their mission to catch up with the deficit in an extraordinary way.
Feyenoord reduced the deficit again in the 82nd minute through Santiago Gimenez’s goal. The visitors finally equalized the score seven minutes later thanks to Hancko’s action. The final score of the match was 3-3.
Manchester City manager, Josep Guardiola was very disappointed that his team failed to win against Feyenoord. He said that his team was too fragile so that they lost a three-point advantage.
Pep was very disappointed that his team failed to win this match. “We played quite well today and we could have been 3-0 up,” Pep told Amazon Prime.
According to Pep, City failed to maintain the consistency of their game in the second half.
Feyenoord was able to maximize that well so that they equalized to 3-3.
“We conceded the first goal because we were not stable. We let them score the first goal easily, then they were motivated to score the next goal and that made everything difficult for us,” continued Pep.
Pep said that his team’s mentality was not stable in this match because they had suffered a number of bad results recently.
This situation made them panic when they conceded and that made The Citizens lose control of the game.
“We’ve had a lot of defeats lately and that’s made us vulnerable. We actually played at a good level, but when they (Feyenoord) created the first chance, we were in a panic,” the manager complained.
Pep is currently focused on preparing Manchester City for the big match at the weekend.
The Citizens will face Liverpool at the weekend and Pep is determined to lead his team to victory.
