Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has believed the the club potential players and their ability to take over the role left by Cristiano Ronaldo.
“Yes [United want to sign a forward]. But only when we find the right player.” Ten Hag said.
“There are two things. First, goals can also come out of our own club; see [Alejandro] Garnacho, see [Anthony] Elanga, see [Facundo] Pellistri, who made a good impression in the World Cup and in the game against Everton last week in training. That is first,”
‘We are aware we lost a striker, so I think we have to get a striker in, but it has to be the right one.” Ten Hag added.
But the Dutch manager admitted that the club is ready to recruit more strikers when the January transfer window opens, with the right criteria.
“The right one will bring quality to the team and not just be an addition to the squad, because that only gives you problems. You know the criteria is high at Manchester United.” Ten Hag said.
Ronaldo scored 24 goals in 38 matches in all competitions in the 2021-2022 season after returning to Old Trafford.
The Portuguese striker lost his starting position under the new manager Ten Hag, he scoring three goals in 16 matches, before leaving by a controversial interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored.
Ten Hag, meanwhile, also feels Marcus Rashford has it in him to contribute 20 league goals in a campaign.
While Rashford has four to date this season, he has scored nine times for United in all competitions.
“I said from the start, I think he’s capable of scoring 20 goals in the Premier League,” Ten Hag said.
“I’m convinced about that. He now has four, but he scored many other goals, he scored three at the World Cup. So, then you have the potential also to score those numbers of goals in the Premier League.” he added.
