Manchester United qualified for the FA Cup quarter-finals after beating Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Monday (18/2).
Man United came to London without remembering a painful defeat 0-2 to Paris Saint Germain in the Champions League. As a result, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s direction squad was brilliant and successfully humiliated the hosts.
The Red Devils who played aggressively managed to score two goals in the first half thanks to goals from Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba.
Man United broke the deadlock in the 31st minute through Ander Herrera’s header using a Paul Pogba cross from the left side.
Not satisfied only to provide assists, Pogba also recorded his name on the scoreboard in the 45th minute. This time it was Marcus Rashford’s cross which was succeeded by Pogba to beat Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Behind two goals forced Chelsea to appear more attacking from the start of the second half. Eden Hazard et al have tried to suppress from all directions but failed to score a reply.
A score of 2-0 for Man United’s advantage lasted until the fight was over. Man United also managed to advance to the quarter-finals following in the footsteps of Manchester City who previously won 4-1 over Newport County.
In the quarter-finals Man United will face fellow English Premier League team Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wolverhampton will act as the host in the match which was held on Saturday (3/16).
“We want to get to the finals. It will be a difficult away match against Wolves. But it looks like we and the fans like the away games,” Solskjaer was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
Solskjaer’s victory over Chelsea was a positive reaction from the Red Devils after losing 2-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, midweek.
The victory over Chelsea is expected to be an important capital for the Red Devils to fight Wolverhampton. Even though on Sunday (24/2), Man United played a tough game by hosting Liverpool in the English Premier League.
“We will face Liverpool next week. Chelsea, Arsenal and we will fight for fourth place. There are three good teams for one position. However, this is about qualifying for the next round,” Solskjaer said.
On that occasion Solskjaer also recalled Man United’s bad moments against Chelsea.
“We lost to Chelsea in last year’s final. My last match was also lost to Chelsea in the FA Cup final. The last time we beat them in the tournament was 20 years ago,” Solskjaer said.
