Manchester United face a fight to sign Gremio striker Everton Soares, according to reports. Manchester United have reportedly sent scouts to watch Gremio striker Everton Soares ahead of a possible move. ESPN FC say United have sent their South American scouts to watch the Brazilian international, who has 15 goals in 36 appearances during the current Brazilian Serie A season. Everton, 22, can play from the left or through the middle, and is also interesting Manchester City, according to the report. The forward is said to be valued at around £30m, with a release clause of around €60m inserted into the new contract he signed in August which ties him to his current club until 2022. Meanwhile, two United defenders are reportedly interesting their Premier League rivals as Jose Mourinho attempts to bring in reinforcements in the troublesome position.
After a poor start for Romelu Lukaku for Manchester United, this season with the Belgium international failing to score for United since September and Alexis Sanchez have failed to replicate his Arsenal form, ESPN claims United are eyeing a move for Brazil and Gremio forward Everton Soares. The 22-year-old is being watched by both Manchester giants this season. UOL Esporte says City have been scouting Soares since he was 16-years-old but were unable to make an approach due to rulings which meant he could not leave Brazil until he was 18.
It is suggested City have been scouting the youngster ever since Pep Guardiola took over at the Etihad stadium, however, Gremio’s have always been reluctant to sell their star forward. The player’s recent run of form has reportedly reignited interest from United, with the club still said to be monitoring any developments in his situation. Everton, an attacker who can play on either wing or through the middle, is one of Brazil’s most highly rated prospects and made his international debut in September against the United States. It is claimed United face a fight to secure his signature, however, as Everton is valued at around £30million and recently signed a new contract until 2022.
The Daily Record say Arsenal and Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Eric Bailly, who has fallen out of favour with Mourinho in recent weeks. The report says both clubs enquired about the Ivorian international in the summer and remain interested. United, however, are reluctant to sell. Another defender who is down the pecking order at Old Trafford is Marcos Rojo and the Metro claim Everton have opened talks to sign him. If Mourinho is to bring in a new centre-back, he would have to let one of his current players leave to free up funds, and Rojo would be a prime candidate having not featured so far this season.
