Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Juventus midfielder Blaise Matuidi by notorious super-agent Mino Raiola, according to reports in Italy. Jose Mourinho has ruled out the prospect of signing any more attackers in the summer but is in the market for a new holding midfielder to partner the out-of-form Paul Pogba. United have dabbled with a 4-3-3 formation in recent weeks after Pogba complained of not having enough freedom when part of a midfield two, and Scott McTominay has impressed since coming into the side to provide more balance.
However, Mourinho still wants to bring in a world-class holding midfielder in the summer, especially with Michael Carrick hanging up his boots to join the United coaching staff. And now Rai Sport claims that Raiola – who also represents Pogba – has offered another of his clients, Matuidi, to Mourinho as the solution to his problems. The Juventus midfielder has played alongside Pogba to good effect with the French national team, while Max Allegri even switched to a 4-3-3 formation to get Matuidi in the side. The 30-year-old moved to Turin from PSG last summer and is already one of Allegri’s most trusted players, with the Frenchman picked to start away to Tottenham despite only recently coming back from injury.
Matuidi has given a number of excellent displays in a Juve shirt this season, and Raiola is in constant contact with United about the prospect of bringing another of his clients to Old Trafford. The Red Devils already have Raiola-represented players Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Romelu Lukaku and Sergio Romero on their books, while he also helped sell Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Arsenal in a swap deal for Alexis Sanchez.
The France international midfielder is a regular starter for Juventus under manager Max Allegri. Matuidi moved to the Serie A champions last summer from Paris St-Germain for a fee of around £18m. The 30-year-old has quickly become a key player for Juve in their 4-3-3 system. But Raiola feels that his client could end up joining Premier League giants Manchester United, according to Rai Sport. United are set to lose Michael Carrick who will retire at the end of the season, while Marouane Fellaini has rejected a new deal and looks to be leaving Old Trafford. Bookmakers Ladbrokes believe Matuidi could be heading to United and are pricing him at just 6/4 to make the move.
