Manchester United announced on Monday that they have appointed Ralf Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked.
The 63-year-old German manager joined Old Trafford from Lokomotiv Moscow, where he served as director of sport and development.
However, at the end of the season, Rangnick will take on a consulting role at Old Trafford for another two years.
Rangnick is still waiting to complete his work permit before he can take over as first-team manager of Michael Carrick, who has taken charge of two matches since Solskjaer was sacked a week ago, following worst results.
“Ralf is our No 1 candidate for the interim manager position, reflecting the invaluable leadership and skills he will bring after almost four years. decades of experience in management and coaching.” United’s director of football John Murtough said.
The former RB Leipzig manager said he is delighted to be joining Manchester United and is focused on helping the struggling club have a successful season.

Rangnick could lead United for the first time against Arsenal on Thursday if his work permit issue is resolved quickly.
Man United are eighth in the Premier League table after a 1-1 draw with leaders Chelsea on Sunday. The Red Devils are five points behind the top four.
