Manchester United vs Aston Villa Result: Score 2-0

Manchester United closed the 2024/2025 Premier League season with a 2-0 win over Aston Villa in the 38th week match held at Old Trafford, Sunday (25/5/2025).

Aston Villa had to play with 10 men since the end of the first half after Emiliano Martinez was given a red card. Man United secured victory thanks to goals from Amad Diallo and Christian Eriksen’s penalty in the second half.

This result made Man United end the season in 15th place with 42 points and provided consolation after the defeat in the Europa League final. Meanwhile, Aston Villa is ranked sixth and will play in the Europa League.

Manchester United immediately stepped on the gas from the first minute. Full support from the Old Trafford public made the hosts appear aggressive and confident.

The first golden opportunity came in the 4th minute when Mason Mount almost broke into Villa’s goal. His two shots were thwarted by Emiliano Martinez, who performed extraordinarily to keep his goal clean.

United again threatened in the 12th minute through Amad Diallo’s movement. The young player’s shot went just wide of the goal, making the supporters hold their breath.

Villa were hit by problems in the 20th minute when Mazraoui had to be withdrawn due to a hamstring injury. Dalot came on to replace him, but this change actually brought a new color to United’s attack.

The match became more dramatic as the break approached, precisely in the 45+1 minute. A fatal mistake from Cash resulted in a red card for Martinez after crashing into Hojlund who was running freely towards the goal.

The second half began with a change of players from United who lost Dalot due to injury. Kobbie Mainoo came on, while Amad Diallo was shifted to the wing to fill the hole left behind.

The pressure continued to be launched by Rúben Amorim’s team. Bruno Fernandes almost scored a goal in the 51st minute, but his shot only went wide of Olsen’s goal.

United seemed haunted by the goalpost throughout the match. Casemiro and Eriksen both hit the post in the 54th and 83rd minutes, frustrating players and fans alike.

Tensions boiled over in the 74th minute when Villa had a goal ruled out for a foul on Bayindir. VAR confirmed Rogers had kicked the ball out of the goalkeeper’s grasp before slotting it home.

The goal finally came in the 76th minute through a fine piece of play by Amad Diallo. Receiving a long ball from Bruno, he headed the ball past Olsen and into the Villa net.

Six minutes later, Eriksen almost scored a stunning goal with a curling free-kick. Unfortunately, the ball only hit the roof of the net and again left Old Trafford holding back their cheers.

Eriksen’s wait for a farewell goal was finally answered in the 87th minute from the penalty spot. His powerful penalty shot crashed into the middle of the net, ending an emotional 2-0 game.
