Former Manchester United center-back Rio Ferdinand told Marcus Rashford to sue coach Ruben Amorim who made negative comments after the match against Fulham.
Man Utd won narrowly 1-0 over hosts Fulham in the 2024/2025 Premier League, Monday (27/1/2025) early morning WIB. After the match, Amorim answered journalists’ questions about Marcus Rashford.
In his answer, Amorim gave the reason for not including Rashford in the squad. He actually preferred to place the goalkeeping coach, Jorge Vital, instead of fielding Rashford.
“If I am the player the coach means about my heart, pride, and ego, that’s embarrassing. For someone to question my presence in giving 100 percent to the team, that means a shortcut to getting rid of you,” Ferdinand was quoted as saying by Sport Bible.
According to Ferdinand, every player has a period of declining performance to self-confidence. But he regretted the coach’s comments who doubted the player when he was in an unfavorable situation.
“[Amorim’s] comments were not good, because I think he knew how people would react to them. But he didn’t think about where this was going because there’s no way back for Marcus [Rashford] after this. Not with comments like that,” he said.
“If what he said was not true, I would have gone out in anger. I would have held a press conference and said that everything that was said in the media did not reflect me,” Ferdinand added.
Ferdinand believes that a coach should have had a private discussion with his players. He thinks that this would have been more useful for the players than being sprayed in front of the media.
“I think in a situation like this it should have been discussed. Not when the coach can question the good or bad performance of the players, but he also questions my struggles. If that’s the case, I’m sorry I will go out, bring journalists, and try to sue him,” said Ferdinand.
