Manny Pacquiao reveals Floyd Mayweather wants a rematch

Many Pacquiao (60-7-2) said a rematch against Floyd Mayweather (50-0, 27 KOs) will take place next year. The six-divison world champion revealed he would like to have two more fights before retiring.

Pacquiao last fought in July in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, defeating Lucas Matthysse to win a secondary welterweight title. He called out Mayweather after the triumph.

“When I met up with Floyd in Japan, we talked and he said he wants to come out of retirement to challenge me,” Pacquiao said.

“All I know is fighting in the ring and entertaining people. That’s my job. Floyd has come out of retirement and we’ll see after this fight.” Pacquiao added.

The Japanese MMA company, Rizin FF had announced two weeks ago that the undefeated boxing legend Mayweather would face a Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa, in a special bout on New Year’s Eve at the Saitama Super Arena.

The 41-year-old man has never fought professionally in mixed martial arts and revealed that it remains to be determined whether the bout would be a pure boxing bout or another mixed martial arts.

“There is a big possibility because Floyd is coming back into boxing. He is fighting in December and I am fighting in January. So a big possibility after that next year that we will discuss a rematch.” Pacquaio said.

“My thinking is to have a rematch and to make a clear decision on who will win the fight because in the last fight that we had it wasn’t clear who won the fight because he didn’t throw a lot of punches and he won the fight. I had a shoulder injury, but this time, if this rematch happens there are no excuses, no alibis.” Pacquaio said.

Pacquiao will defend his WBA welterweight belt against Adrien Broner on January 19, 2019, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

“Las Vegas is a bit of a home away from home and I’m really happy to be back at MGM Arena to defend my title.” Pacquiao said.

Mayweather beat Pacquiao by unanimous decision 118-110, 116-112, 116-112 at the MGM Arena in Las Vegas in 2015. It will be most lucrative fight in boxing history, with the combined earnings for the pair expected to top $ 400m.
