Marc Marquez and his brother Alex Marquez were voted best Catalan sportsmen of the 2019 season during the Catalan Sports Festival, organized by the Union of Catalan Sports Federations.
The reigning champion Marc underwent major surgery on his left shoulder immediately after last year’s Jerez test, due to frequent dislocations, and was still far from fully fit when the first Sepang test on February 7.
“As everyone knows, last winter was very tough for me with the operation on the left shoulder, which was very, very damaged. I want to avoid the situation where my right shoulder is in this condition in the future so I spoke a lot with the doctors to see what our options were.” Marquez said.
“I wish the recovery was better. It was quite difficult. Last year I had surgery on my left shoulder and the recovery was different. This time it seemed easier, but it wasn’t. I hope we can get in shape for the Malaysian tests.” Marquez added.
Alex will make his MotoGP debut alongside his brother on Team HRC for the 2020 season. He has only signed a one-year contract.
When asked about his brother Alex, Marquez said: “He is a novice and must learn, he has an interesting bike.”
“The first opponent is always the partner and this does not change anything. We are brothers, we help each other, but we are rivals.” Marquez added.
The Honda’s doctor had indicated that the intervention would be carried out as a preventive measure, to cure the ailment before preventing other physical problems from arising thereafter.
“During the season he could have suffered other injuries and ended up with the shoulder in the same state as the other a year ago,” dr. Mir Said.
If we look at Marquez last season, it was almost a regular thing to see him crash several times during practice. It would seem that for each of the new tracks he was pushing to find the bleeding edge limit of traction for that track.
