Indonesian men double pair Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo on Monday won the tile of the best male player 2017 of Badminton World Federation (BWF) at Dubai Sports Council in Dubai.
Marcus and Kevin managed to beat some of the best men nominator players like Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen, China’s Zheng Siwei and India’s Kidambi Srikanth.
Marcus and Kevin also won six titles with eight matches in the final of the Super Series this year. They lost in Korea Super Series finals and Denmark Super Series Premier.
In the past two years, the winner of Best Men Player has always been a men’s singles player. Chen Long was the best in 2015 edition while Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei won the award in last year.
“We didn’t expect to win this award at first, but all rivals were good. Normally single players have won the best player award. We have to get better ahead, if we can win next year.” Marcus said.
Both badminton players are happy to be in the current World Number 1 position. They are 11,000 points ahead of Denmark’s Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen, who sit at the second place.

In the 2017 Super Series tournament in Dubai, starting December 13 to 17, Marcus and Kevin do not want to underestimate their rivals when they meet in the tournament.
“Of course we are happy to win this award, hopefully this achievement can motivate us to be the champion in the 2017 BWF World Super Series Finals tournement.” Kevin said.
“The draw was not good but it’s not bad either, in my men’s double now, all can beat each other, in my group there is Li/Liu, Kamura/Sonoda and Kolding/Petersen all of them are good.
“We can win at their last meeting, cannot be used as a benchmark, if you’ve finished the match, the position back 0-0 again.” Kevin added.
