Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has stepped up for Marcus Rashford. The reason is, the Man United striker is currently in the spotlight and is being criticised for not performing well.
Rashford is in a difficult period in his career at Man United at the moment. Because, the English striker’s performance this season is not as sharp as last season with the club nicknamed the Red Devils.
Even so, Rooney still really believes in Rashford’s quality. According to him, Rashford is a player who has great potential.
The former Man United bomber assesses that the difficulties currently haunting Rashford are due to various factors. However, Rooney asked his juniors not to give up and continue to work harder.
“He is a player who is developing, he has great potential and has shown a lot, but I think for various reasons he finds this season difficult,” said Rooney, quoted from Metro, Friday (1/3/2024).
“We’ve obviously seen things in the headlines. “But for Marcus, the main focus is to keep his head down and more importantly work hard, I think that’s what everyone wants to see,” he continued.
“His ability will allow him to score goals, we want to see Marcus enjoying his football, but also working hard, working for the team, that’s what everyone wants to see,” said Rooney.
Rashford has not been able to score a goal in Man United’s last five matches in all competitions. In fact, so far this season, the 26 year old player has only scored five goals in 32 appearances in all competitions this season with the Red Devils.
It will be interesting to wait for Rashford’s next appearance. Man United itself will next face Manchester City in the 2023-2024 Premier League.
The match, entitled the Manchester Derby, will take place at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday 3 March 2024. There is great hope that Rashford can open his scoring account again to increase his confidence.
