Former Russian tennis icon Maria Sharapova has confirmed her second pregnancy on Tuesday night via a montage shared on her social media.
The five-time Grand Slam champions posted a photo on Instagram showing off her “little baby” while posing at the beach.
“Precious beginnings!!! Eating birthday cake for two has always been my specialty,” Maria wrote on Instagram.
The 35-year-old Russian, who won all four tennis grand slam titles during her career, celebrated her 35th birthday on Tuesday.
Sharapova announced her engagement to British businessman Alexander Gilkes in December 2020. The pair have been in a relationship since 2018 and Gilkes is often seen in competitive matches of Sharapova towards the end of her career.
The former No. 1 tennis player retired in February 2020 with the Australian Open that year being her last appearance on the tennis court.
“How do you walk away from the courts you’ve trained on since you were a little girl, the game that you love, one which brought you untold tears and unspeakable joys,” Maria said.
“A sport where you found a family, along with fans who rallied behind you for more than 28 years? I’m new to this, so please forgive me. Tennis, I’m saying goodbye.” Maria added.
Sharapova is one of the most famous tennis players in the world not only for her great career but also for her charming beauty.
She is one of only 10 female tennis players to have won all four Grand Slam titles in her career, ending with a total of 5 Grand Slam titles, including 1 Australian Open, 2 Roland Garros , 1 Wimbledon and 1 US Open.
The former world number one has collected more than $38 million in prize money during her career, according to the WTA’s website.
