Marketa Vondrousova and family can finally enjoy the beautiful moment of celebrating victory after two extraordinary weeks at Wimbledon.
Just four months ago the Czech national found himself outside the top 100 rankings after he was still making his way back into the tennis world after undergoing left wrist surgery last season.
At the start of this season’s Wimbledon, the 24-year-old recorded 4-11 on grass-court tournaments and not many people expected that he would make it to the final. Even the tennis player himself did not expect that he could penetrate the second week of the Grand Slam.

However, the Czech beat favorite Ons Jabeur in straight sets to win her first career Grand Slam title and become the lowest-ranked player to win the Wimbledon title after ranking 42 in the world.
Asked to describe this season’s London trip, Vondrousova stated, “I’d say it’s crazy for sure. Like I said, I didn’t play well on grass before. When we got here I was like, ‘OK, just play without stress, try to win some games’. Then this happened.”
“This is unbelievable. I don’t think anyone would have said this before we got here, that I even had the chance to win. I’m an unseeded tennis player. I mean, it’s been an amazing journey. I still can’t believe it.”
In the 2019 season, she made it to the finals of the French Open and lost to Ashleigh Barty. It was a lonely moment when his family was not around after the defeat.
Things were different at Wimbledon this season after the tennis player’s husband, Stepan Simek, and his younger sister, Julia, came to witness it live.
“Winning, it’s an amazing feeling. I found my husband here. My little sister also came. I feel very happy to be able to share this victory with the people closest to me because in Paris it was a bit sad. I can’t hug them. Now, this is happening. I thought I just wanted to share it with them, it’s amazing,” said Marketa Vondrousova.
The 24-year-old was also asked about her husband showing no emotion during matches and he joked, “He’s like that all the time (while smiling). I think when I went to their chair she was crying. I saw him and he was in tears.”
“I think that’s the first emotion I’ve seen from him in eight years (laughs). I think he cried on the wedding day too.”
